Privacy policy
PinaSweldo works out take-home pay on your own device. The only information that reaches us is what you choose to send: answers to the survey, or a reply to “Did we get it right?”. This page explains what that is, why we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it, as the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) requires.
The short version
- The calculator runs in your browser. Your salary is not sent to us to work out your pay.
- Your inputs are saved on your device and in the page link, so you can come back or share a result. Loans are never put in the link.
- PinaSweldo sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads or tracking pixels.
- The survey and “Did we get it right?” are optional. Answers are stored without your name and published only as totals for groups large enough that no one can be picked out.
- Contact details are optional, stored apart from your answers, and kept only if you say we may email you.
- We never sell data or share it with employers or advertisers.
Who is responsible
PinaSweldo is a personal project run by John Nazarene Dela Pisa, City of Imus, Cavite, Philippines, not a company. He is the personal information controller for it, and where this page says “we” or “us”, it means him. Write to privacy@pinasweldo.comabout anything on this page.
No Data Protection Officer is designated, because PinaSweldo is not registered with the National Privacy Commission. John Nazarene Dela Pisa handles privacy requests directly, at the same address.
The calculator
What stays on your device
Every figure is computed by code running in your browser. To remember your choices between visits, PinaSweldo saves them in your browser’s local storage: your pay inputs, the theme, the language, the sound setting, and a few view preferences. The cookie notice lists each one and how to clear it. Nothing in local storage is sent to us.
What goes in the page link
Your inputs are also written into the page address, so a bookmark or a shared link opens the same result. Anyone you send the link to can see those inputs. Loans and other personal deductions are never put in the link. Like any address, the link may appear in your browser history and in the logs of the service you share it through.
Story images
The shareable story image is drawn on your device. It isn’t uploaded to us, and its file name never contains your salary.
Exchange rates
When the page shows amounts in another currency, it asks our own server for the day’s reference rates. That request contains no inputs and nothing about you. Our server gets the rates from the European Central Bank’s published reference rates through the Frankfurter service, without passing on anything about you.
The survey and “Did we get it right?”
What we collect
The survey asks, with only consent, age confirmation and the core pay questions required, and “prefer not to say” on almost everything else:
- your consent, and that you are 18 or older;
- about you: your work situation, region, whether you live in a city or rural area, age band, and highest education finished;
- your work: industry, kind of work, employment status, employer size, where you work, whether your employer or client is abroad, time in the job and years of experience;
- your pay: basic pay and how often, usual take-home and how often, benefits you get, weekly hours, your last raise, whether your pay covers your needs, and how close PinaSweldo’s estimate was;
- living costs: housing, dependents, money sent to family, what’s left each month, savings buffer, costs that squeeze you most, recent changes in spending, and shocks in the past year;
- work and the future: use of AI tools and their effect on your work and pay, job security, and whether you’re looking for another job and why.
“Did we get it right?” under the result sends whether the estimate matched your pay and, if you enter it, your actual monthly take-home.
With either one, if you opened it from the calculator, the calculator’s basic inputs and result are sent along: worker type, pay period, workdays, the salary amount, and the monthly gross and take-home it worked out. Loans are never included. We also record the language you used, the survey and consent versions, and the date (the day only, not the time).
Contact details (name, email, employer) are entirely optional. They are kept only if you choose “Yes, send me the findings” or “Yes, findings and a short follow-up”. If you choose “No, don’t keep my details”, they are discarded before anything is stored.
What we don’t collect
We don’t store your IP address, the exact time you answered, your device or browser details, or any identifier that links your answers to your visit. No response ID is handed back to your browser.
Sensitive personal information
Your age band and education count as sensitive personal information under the Act. We collect them only with your explicit consent, given at the start of the survey and recorded with the version of the consent text you saw, and both questions can be skipped.
Why we collect it, and on what basis
We process survey and feedback answers on the basis of your consent (Sections 12(a) and 13(a) of the Data Privacy Act, its Implementing Rules and Regulations, and the circulars of the National Privacy Commission). We use them for two purposes only:
- research on how much Filipino workers earn, keep and spend, shared with the public, students and researchers; and
- checking and improving the accuracy of the calculator.
Contact details are used only to send you the findings or, if you agreed, to invite you to one short follow-up about this survey. Your employer’s name is used only to group answers by company size and sector, and is never shown or shared.
How results are published
We publish only totals, averages and similar summaries. Any group with fewer than 10 responses is left out or merged with another, so no one can be picked out. We never publish individual answers, contact details or employer names.
Bot protection
To keep out automated submissions, the survey page may run Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks signals from your browser and, when you submit, sends a one-time token and your IP address to Cloudflare to confirm you’re a person. Turnstile is not used for advertising or to track you across sites; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. To stop the same device from sending dozens of answers, we also count submissions per day under a keyed, one-way hash of your address, the kind of submission and the date. The address itself is never stored, and the hash can’t be turned back into it or linked across days.
How long we keep it
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Settings and inputs in your browser | Until you clear them (the cookie notice shows how). |
| Survey answers and “Did we get it right?” replies | Kept without names for as long as they’re useful for the research, and deleted when they no longer are. |
| Contact details | Deleted once the findings are sent or the follow-up is done, and in any case within 12 months of when you answered, or sooner if you ask. |
| Rate-limit hashes | Deleted once they’re two days old, the next time anyone submits. |
Who else handles it
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, runs the small server functions behind the survey and exchange rates, and stores the survey database (Cloudflare D1). As our processor it handles request details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site, under its own privacy policy. Cloudflare shows us traffic totals in its dashboard; we don’t add analytics to the site.
If we share survey answers with other researchers, they get them without contact details, under an agreement to use them only for research, keep them secure, not try to identify anyone, and publish only totals as described above.
We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and we never give it to employers, lenders or advertisers.
We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example under a lawful order of a court or the National Privacy Commission.
Transfers outside the Philippines
Cloudflare runs a global network, so your request and your answers may be processed and stored in data centres outside the Philippines. Cloudflare processes it under its data processing terms, and we remain responsible for your information under the Act wherever it is processed.
How we protect it
- Every connection is encrypted (HTTPS), and the site sends strict security headers.
- The database accepts writes only from our own functions. There is no public way to read answers back, not even your own.
- Access to the database is limited to John Nazarene Dela Pisa, who runs PinaSweldo.
- Contact details sit in a separate table from answers and are never joined in anything published.
- No raw IP addresses are stored, and request bodies are never written to logs.
If a breach ever puts your information at risk, we will notify the National Privacy Commission and the people affected within 72 hours of knowing about it, as NPC Circular 16-03 requires.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act you have the right to:
- be informed about how your information is processed, which is what this page is for;
- object to processing, and withdraw your consent at any time;
- access the information we hold about you;
- rectification of anything inaccurate;
- erasure or blocking of your information;
- data portability, a copy in a common electronic format;
- damages, if you suffer harm from inaccurate, unlawfully obtained or misused information; and
- lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
How to use them
Write to privacy@pinasweldo.com. If you left contact details, include the email you used, and we can find, correct or delete both your details and the answers sent with them. Because answers without contact details carry nothing that links them to you, we usually can’t pick out one person’s anonymous answers; if you tell us the day you answered and some of your answers, we’ll try. We reply within 30 days, and it costs nothing.
Withdrawing consent doesn’t undo totals already published, since those no longer contain anyone’s individual answers.
Age limit
The survey is for people 18 and older. If someone under 18 tells us they answered, we’ll delete those answers when we can identify them.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects how we use answers already given, we’ll ask again where we can, and otherwise won’t apply it to those answers. The survey records which version of the consent text each person agreed to.
